ART OF SALES 1, 3.04 (V) The Sales Trailer

3.04 (V) The Sales Trailer

Let's discuss your sales trailer. Remember, the sales trailer is the one or two sentence movie trailer of you. You will use the sales tool perhaps more than any other thing you say to people when you're selling, so I want you to get it right. Here are a bunch of examples of sales trailers I use depending on which role I'm playing. Since I'm a professor, I'm a CEO of a company, I'm an author, and a venture capitalist, I have different sales trailers depending on the different situations that I find myself in. If I'm wearing my Kellogg professor hat and talking to students or clients of Kellogg, my sales trailers might be, "I'm a professor at Kellogg where I teach a communications course that helps people show up, stand out, and breakthrough," or I might say, "I teach a massive online course that helps people all over the world become high performing salespeople." If I'm wearing my consulting hat, I say, "I run a company called SalesEngine, and we help firms build and tune their sales engine." And finally, if I'm talking about my book, I might say, "I wrote a book called, What's Your Story?, that helps people tell the right story at the right time for the right reasons." I hope these examples are helpful to you. Think through your sales trailer and then test it in your real life sales conversations. If it doesn't feel right, it's not a tattoo. They're just words. Change them until you get it just right.
